1121 Sella Basmati
The world's longest grain, built for volume
About this variety
1121 Sella Basmati holds the distinction of producing the longest grain of any commercially grown rice variety in the world. Originating from the rice-growing heartland of Punjab, Pakistan, this variety undergoes a parboiling process — known as sella treatment — that partially steams the grain before milling. The result is a firmer, more resilient grain that withstands extended cooking times without breaking or turning mushy.
Its exceptional elongation, reaching up to 22 mm upon cooking, makes it the variety of choice for large-scale catering, hospitality groups, and food service operations across the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. The sella process also enhances the grain's nutritional profile by driving nutrients from the bran into the endosperm, making it a more wholesome option compared to raw white rice.
At Ain International, our 1121 Sella is sourced directly from dedicated contract growers and processed through state-of-the-art parboiling units with rigorous quality checkpoints — delivering a product that is consistent in colour, aroma, and performance, shipment after shipment.
